Minchul Shin is a senior economic advisor and machine learning economist in the Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. He works at the intersection of empirical macroeconomics, forecasting, and real-time economic monitoring, building quantitative tools and empirical frameworks used in applied macroeconomic analysis. He also collaborates across teams on data- and technology-intensive projects.
Minchul’s research combines structural macroeconometric modeling with advanced econometric and machine learning techniques to produce credible, policy-relevant inference. His work has been published in leading economics and statistics journals, including the Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of the American Statistical Association, and the Journal of Econometrics, among others. He is an associate editor of the International Journal of Forecasting and the Journal of Applied Econometrics.
He has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in economics from Sungkyunkwan University. He taught econometrics at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.
