The data presented in the April 2024 LIFE Survey Report show that while some aspects of consumers’ financial lives appear to be easing, concern for the future is rising among some segments. We note several key observations about consumers’ financial lives over the past 12 months, including:

  • Respondents continue to be more positive about their income prospects compared with one year earlier, even though optimism has decreased since the beginning of this year.
  • The percentage of respondents concerned about making ends meet rose slightly in April. In particular, people who are currently able to meet all of their monthly obligations expressed more worries about their future finances.
  • Concern about exposure to illness has increased for nonemployed respondents of working age and is nearly as common a worry as access to reliable transportation and the stability of potential jobs.
