Chris grew up in rural Texas and Tennessee, and, after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Latin American studies and economics, he worked at an energy efficiency consultancy. In 2017 he completed his PhD at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was advised by faculty in both the Department of Economics and the Bren School. His research interests span urban, environmental, and development economics.
