Areas of Expertise

Christopher Severen studies how people and places interact. His research spans urban, environmental, development, and transportation economics. Recent papers have studied the impacts of the California Coastal Act (published in the Journal of Urban Economics) and the effects of Los Angeles Metro Rail on commuting and urban structure (under revision for the Review of Economics and Statistics).

He has been at the Bank since 2017. Chris attained his Ph.D and M.A. in economics at the University at California, Santa Barbara, and earned a B.A. in economics and Latin American studies from the University of Texas at Austin.
