Theresa Singleton, vice president of the Community Development Studies and Education Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, has been named Community Development Champion of the Year by the Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporations (PACDC). The award is given to an individual whose accomplishments have advanced the community development field. The PACDC is the city's leading advocate for community development groups.
Singleton serves on the PACDC's National Advisory Board, which coordinates community outreach efforts across the country. “Since she's come on board, Theresa Singleton has been a strong partner with us and has helped move our work forward,” said Rick Sauer, executive director of PACDC. “She is a leader in the industry who has made a significant impact on the Philadelphia community.”
At the Philadelphia Fed, Singleton is responsible for overseeing research and outreach initiatives that promote community development and fair and impartial access to credit, including the biennial Reinventing Older Communities conference and the upcoming Equitable Economic Development conference in Lancaster, PA, on Tuesday, May 19. She also oversees economic education and personal financial efforts for the Bank.
Before joining the Philadelphia Fed, Singleton served as director of research and information at the Housing Assistance Council in Washington, D.C. In that role, she was responsible for the organization's research and information activities, including oversight of the communications and public relations functions. Prior to her work on rural housing issues, Singleton taught undergraduate courses on the American political system at Temple University and Widener University. She has Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. degrees in political science from Temple University.
