We present these estimates from March 2020 through March 2021 to directly inform how many renter households may be at risk of eviction because of COVID-19 when the national moratorium expires. We estimate that, as a result of pandemic-related job losses, 1.3 million renter households will accrue $7.2 billion in unpaid rent by the end of 2020. In particular, Hispanic households, Black households, and family households headed by single women are disproportionately likely to experience rental debt. These households may be at risk of eviction when the national moratorium expires.
