Tony Allen

President, Delaware State University – Dover, DE

Tony Allen is president of Delaware State University. He previously served as the university’s executive vice president and provost. In this role, he reorganized the university’s academic colleges and the professional advising unit and developed new impact-oriented organizations, including the Center for Neighborhood Revitalization and Research and the Center for Global Africa. He also oversaw the university’s Early College High School, a national model for dual degree programs in the K–12 system.

Before joining Delaware State University, Allen worked at Bank of America as managing director of corporate reputation. Allen was the founding president of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League and cofounder of Public Allies Delaware. He also served as chair of the Wilmington Education Improvement Commission, chairperson for the United Way of Delaware’s $20 million annual charitable campaign, and chair emeritus of the National Urban Fellows.

Allen earned a Ph.D. in urban affairs and public policy at the University of Delaware’s Joseph R. Biden Jr. School of Public Policy and Administration. He also has a master’s degree in public administration from the Austin W. Marxe School of Public and International Affairs at Baruch College and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Delaware.
