Area of Expertise

Jonathan Brown understands that ensuring the safety and soundness of financial institutions is critical to maintaining stability in the U.S. economy and supporting the citizens of the Third District. As vice president in the Supervision, Regulation, and Credit Department, Jonathan oversees the Safety and Soundness function, leading bank supervision for large and foreign banking organizations, regional banking organizations, and community banking organizations. He is also responsible for the Bank's information technology exams, enforcement, and mergers and applications functions. These areas handle holding company inspections, bank examinations, continuous monitoring, various types of applications, and administration and follow-up on enforcement actions to identify significant threats to individual institutions and U.S. financial stability.

Additionally, Jonathan represents Philadelphia supervision and regulation on several Federal Reserve System management groups tasked with discussing emerging issues, implementing program guidance, and executing strategic priorities.

With more than 20 years of experience at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, Jonathan has developed deep expertise across all portfolio sizes of bank supervision. His leadership approach emphasizes building agile teams prepared to navigate complex regulatory changes and emerging risks while maintaining consistent, effective risk-focused supervision.

Jonathan joined the Bank in 2005 as a surveillance analyst and later moved to a dedicated large bank supervisory team in 2013 as a Basel II examiner. In 2015, he was promoted to supervising examiner and assumed the deputy central point of contact role. He was promoted to officer in 2018 and became the central point of contact for the large bank that same year.

Jonathan has extensive experience in outreach to bank management, boards of directors, and domestic and international regulators. He has represented the Philadelphia Fed at supervisory colleges, regulator roundtables, and Northeast regional forums.

He is passionate about developing future leaders and has mentored numerous staff members who have advanced to leadership positions. Jonathan has a B.A. from Hampton University.
