Higher education institutions and hospitals, so-called “eds and meds,” are two types of anchor institutions that researchers at the Philadelphia Fed are studying to learn more about how these institutions impact their local and state economies.
This includes an interactive dashboard that allows users to explore the economic measures of anchor institutions across 524 U.S., as well as state profiles that detail state-level measures of anchor institution impacts for 2019 and 2004 in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
In this article, we explore three perspectives on using the state-level data to help advance conversations, support collaboration, and drive economic growth.
