Consumer credit statistics provided here are calculated by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia's Community Development Studies and Education (CDS&E) Department using data from the New York Fed/Equifax Consumer Credit Panel data set. Credit usage and delinquency rates are calculated for different income categories based on the relative income of each consumer's neighborhood of residence. In part, neighborhood incomes are used in this analysis because the data set does not contain information on the income of the borrower. Using the neighborhood as the unit of analysis, however, is also an advantage because it can shed light on geographic differences in access to credit and delinquency levels that can have an impact on both the social and physical fabric of a community.
The following links provide access to charts summarizing credit trends within the Third Federal Reserve District and the U.S., as well as supporting documentation and a map of the Third District’s borders.
