On August 25, 2016, the Payment Cards Center hosted its Symposium on Student Loans and Socioeconomic Mobility. The event focused on ways in which student loans can improve or hinder socioeconomic mobility for disadvantaged groups. Participants considered the impact of current student loan programs on access to higher education and on subsequent outcomes for underrepresented students. They also debated potential policies that might support the role of higher education in individual opportunity and social change.
