and chief operating officer.

Philadelphia, PA — The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia today announced the appointment of Jeanne R. Rentezelas to first vice president and chief operating officer, effective November 16. Rentezelas has worked at the Philadelphia Fed since 2010 and is currently senior vice president and general counsel. She succeeds James D. Narron, who retired earlier this year after 27 years of service to the Federal Reserve System.

The first vice president and chief operating officer works closely with the president and chief executive officer to develop the Philadelphia Fed’s strategic direction and lead its effective implementation. The first vice president oversees many key operational areas, works closely with the Bank’s senior leadership team and Board of Directors, and collaborates with colleagues across the Federal Reserve System. In the absence of the Bank’s president, the first vice president serves as chief executive officer.

The appointment was approved by eligible members of the Philadelphia Fed’s Board of Directors, all nonbankers by law, as well as by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, D.C.

“We considered an impressive, diverse pool of internal and external candidates and were pleased when it became apparent that the best candidate for first vice president was already working here at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. Jeanne has established herself as a highly skilled leader and a senior advisor to the president and the Board of Directors. She is an ideal candidate for this important role,” said Tony Ibargüen, chair of the Philadelphia Fed’s Board of Directors.

“Jeanne is a respected leader not only here at the Philadelphia Fed but also throughout the Federal Reserve System. She is a trusted colleague who forges strong working relationships with others and has a deep understanding of our Reserve Bank. I look forward to continuing to work with Jeanne as my strategic partner to advance our public service mission in the Third District,” said Patrick T. Harker, Philadelphia Fed president and chief executive officer.

Rentezelas joined the Philadelphia Fed as vice president and general counsel in 2010 and was promoted to senior vice president and general counsel in 2013. In addition to leading the Legal Department, she currently oversees Law Enforcement and serves as the Philadelphia Fed’s Ethics Officer and has previously led Facilities Management.

Prior to joining the Philadelphia Fed, Rentezelas held legal positions with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, LLP; Popular Financial Holdings, Inc.; and Blank Rome, LLP. She has a J.D. from Rutgers Law School and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Cornell University.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia helps formulate and implement monetary policy; supervises state member banks, bank holding companies, and savings and loan holding companies; and provides financial services to depository institutions and the federal government. It is one of the 12 regional Reserve Banks that, together with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., make up the Federal Reserve System. The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia serves eastern and central Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Delaware.
