Enhancing Prudential Standards in Financial Regulations

William Lang, executive vice president and lending officer in the Supervision, Regulation & Credit Department (SRC) at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, and Julapa Jagtiani, special advisor in SRC, organized a highly successful conference on Enhancing Prudential Standards in Financial Regulations, from April 8 to 9, 2014. The conference was jointly sponsored by the Wharton Financial Institutions Center (with Franklin Allen and Itay Goldstein) and the Journal of Financial Services Research (with Haluk Ünal). President Charles I. Plosser gave a keynote speech on the importance of simplicity, transparency, and market discipline for advancing regulatory reform. The goal of the conference was to engender a robust exchange and discussion of ideas on the vital subject of financial stability and regulatory reforms. The speakers and audience came together to participate in the event from diverse backgrounds, including regulatory, academic, and financial institutions, as well as from consulting and legal sectors. The proceedings from this conference will be published in the Journal of Financial Services Research.
