Research Assistants

The Research Department is looking for research assistants to perform basic statistical and econometric analyses to support the research initiated by economists. A key part of the job is to identify and collect data required for research projects, monetary policy, and senior management briefings. The principal duties and responsibilities include conducting statistical and econometric analysis on personal computers; organizing data for analysis and writing computer programs using SAS, STATA, and other statistical software. Research assistants also present the results of research to economists and management in oral or written reports.

In addition, research assistants:

  • Write documentation of data sources and statistical tests that have been performed on the data;
  • Compile simulations or forecasts of economic variables for use in pre-FOMC briefings;
  • Produce charts and graphs of economic indicators and variables for use in speeches and presentations;
  • Work individually or in a group to identify, communicate, and implement changes and initiatives with the goal of improving the quality of the operation or product.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in economics or equivalent education with an emphasis on mathematics and statistics. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are a must. They must also have the knowledge and ability to apply economic theory and quantitative analysis techniques under the direct supervision of a staff economist.

Applications will be accepted online via the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s Careers Page. Your application should include your cover letter, resume, an unofficial copy of transcripts, a letter of recommendation, and a writing sample in PDF format.
