$1 1923 Silver Certificate
The last series of large size silver certificates was the Series of 1923. Silver certificates were also issued in the new, smaller size until 1963 when Congress ended all silver certificate issuance. Congress ended the redemption of silver certificates for silver bullion in 1968. By that time, most silver certificates had been redeemed and destroyed because their value in silver rose above the face value of the certificates.
