Silver Dollars

Silver dollars were minted from 1794 through 1803, then were abruptly halted. Except for a small number of restrikes made for diplomatic missions and influential collectors, no further silver dollars were struck until 1836 (Seated Liberty design). The Heraldic Eagle reverse shown here is based on the Great Seal of the United States, which can be seen on the back of any current U.S. $1 bill.
