The Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton, PA-NJ MSA consists of Carbon, Lehigh, and Northampton counties in Pennsylvania and Warren County in New Jersey. The principal cities of the MSA are Allentown and Bethlehem. Allentown and the western portion of Bethlehem are located in Lehigh County, while the eastern portion of Bethlehem is located in Northampton County.
The Pennsylvania portion of the MSA, which is the focus of this report, is located in the east central part of the state. This portion of the MSA is bordered by Berks, Bucks, Luzerne, Monroe, Montgomery, and Schuylkill counties in Pennsylvania and Warren County, NJ.
Within the MSA, Lehigh and Northampton counties are often referred to collectively as the Lehigh Valley and the Lehigh River runs through this area. The MSA’s most populous city, Allentown, is centrally located between various metropolitan areas: 55 miles from Philadelphia, 85 miles from Harrisburg, and 90 miles from New York City.
Note: For the remainder of this report, we will refer to the counties of Carbon, Lehigh, and Northampton as the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton, PA MSA. Warren County, NJ is not included unless otherwise noted.
