The Community Affairs Department contributes to the economic health of the nation, the region, and the District’s communities and to a better understanding of the financial system by reporting the credit needs of low- and moderate-income people and communities.

The department works closely with financial institutions, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies on public-private partnerships that result in increased affordable housing and community and economic development.  Additionally, the department assists financial institutions in carrying out their responsibilities under the federal Community Reinvestment Act (CRA).
